U.S. February JOLTS report shows labor market still strong

February’s JOLTS report gives a picture of a labor market that is quite stable and strong. Openings were almost unchanged, up 8k to 8756k, though January was revised down by 115k leaving a net moderately negative figure. The 3 and 6 month averages, near neutral in January, are modestly negative at -58k and -100k respectively.

Elsewhere in the report hirings increased by 120k and separations increased by 110k, with 38k of the ruse in separations coming from quits, a second straight marginal ruse in quits which is consistent with positive perceptions of employment availability.
