US Q3 Current Account - Lowest deficit since Q2 2021

The Q3 current account deficit of $200.3bn is slightly wider than expected, though down from $216.8bn in Q2 and is the narrowest since Q2 2021.


Narrowing in the deficit in goods and services to $184.7bn from $203.8bn was already visible in monthly data. The Q3 surplus in primary (investment) income slipped to $30.0bn from $32.2bn while the deficit in secondary (transfers) income was almost unchanged at $45.6bn versus $45.3bn. The overall deficit stands at 2.9% of GDP, down from 3.2% in Q2.
