USD flows: Trump said looking for a new Fed Chairman

The USD is a touch weaker after the WSJ reported Trump has spoken with former Fed Governor Kevin Warsh about replacing current Fed Chairman Powell, though it appears Warsh is not interested. If Trump persists in his search, he will have trouble finding someone who will have the market’s trust.
Warsh served as a Fed Governor from 2006 through 2011 and was generally seen as a hawk, though not a vocal one. In that sense he may not be an ideal choice for Trump, and the WSJ reports that Warsh as well as Treasury Secretary Bessent advised Trump against firing Powell. Powell’s term expires in May 2026 and he appears determined to see it through. He is likely to serve as a scapegoat for any economic weakness between now and then.
