US core PCE weaker than expected.
US core PCE slightly blow expectations at 0.2%, but it was rounded down from near 0.25% so a marginal difference. No other real surprises in the US data, with the PCE price index at 0.3% as expected. PCE itself was marginally on the soft side at 0.2%, but not enough to have any real market impact. The USD is lower after the data, albeit modestly. Ther emay be more scope for USD wekaness later with end of month flow, which most expect to be USD negative. Tthe main part of this is likely to be ahead of the 4pm London fix. The CAD is an exception to USD weakness, with USD/CAD little changed after the Q1 Canadian GDP data came in weaker than expected at 1.7% q/q annualised.
