Preview: Due November 12 - U.S. October Existing Home Sales - Deepening weakness
2
We expect a 3.3% decline in October existing home sales, which would take the level to the lowest since October 2010. Rising mortgage rates in early October are likely to have hit sales.
September pending home sales, which are designed to predict existing home sales, saw a sharp decline. October’s NAHB homebuilders index was also weaker. We expect continued declines in the Northeast and Midwest and steeper declines in the South and West after increases in September.
We expect the median price to be unchanged on the month but this would see yr/yr growth slipping to 0.6% from 1.3%. We expect sales to be down by 6.1% yr/yr, compared to a 2.2% yr/yr decline in September.
