U.S. January NAHB Homebuilders Index - Resilient but six month view slips
Senior Economist , North America
-
January’s NAHB homebuilders’ index has unexpectedly risen to 47 from 46, unexpectedly resuming an uptrend after a pause in December and showing resilience to higher bond yields and fading expectations for Fed easing.
The resilience may not persist for long however, with the six-month expectations index slipping to 60 from 66, to a 3-month low, though the level is still high enough to suggest a plunge in demand is not imminent.
Current sales at 51 from 48 are at their highest since May while buyer traffic at 33 from 31 is at its highest since April, as is the overall index.
