U.S. August Pending Home Sales - Marginal rise after two straight declines

August pending home sales managed a modest 0.3% increase after two straight declines but the picture remains subdued. The rise keeps the index marginally above January’s record low.
Recent slippage in existing home sales has been following weakness in pending home sales and the latest rise does not imply much upside for existing home sales.
The pending home sales detail showed the Northeast and Midwest with third straight declines but the South and West corrected from two straight preceding declines.
