U.S. September ISM Manufacturing - Prices regaining momentum
2
September’s ISM manufacturing index of 54.5 from 54.6 is almost unchanged and still healthy if remaining off July’s 55.3 high. Prices paid are accelerating, rising to 77.9 after two months at 71.1, though not yet back at April’s high of 84.6.
Details of the composite show improvements in new orders and employment, but slowing in deliveries, production and inventories. New orders at 55.3 have narrowed the gap with production at 56.3 but have not eliminated it. New orders and employment are still below July’s levels.
Delivery times are still firm but at 59.0 from 59.3 are still suggesting significant supply bottlenecks. Prices paid do not contribute to the composite but are clearly responsive to oil.
