U.S. December NAHB Homebuilders Index - Third straight rise
3
December’s NAHB homebuilders’ index of 39 from 38 has delivered a third straight rise though the latest two gains are marginal, by one point, after a strong five point bounce in October and the level is still quite soft.
December’s breakdown shows one point gains in current sales and future expectations and stable buyers traffic, the six month index contrasting a dip in November which suggests more medium term optimism.
Most housing sector indicators have shown some signs of picking up after the Fed resumed easing though we are still missing housing starts and permits from September onwards, and we are waiting to see whether a strong rise in August new home sales will prove erratic.
