U.S. January NAHB Homebuilders Index - Revival losing momentum
1
January’s NAHB homebuilders’ index of 37 from 39 has seen a correction after three straight gains. The gains in Q4 appear to have been supported by Fed easing. If the Fed pauses in Q1, the housing sector revival may lose momentum too.
New home sales are available only through October but has shown some signs of picking up. Existing home sales saw a strong increase in December to the highest level since February 2022. This suggests further gains in new home sales are likely in late Q4, but Q1 may lose momentum.
All three NAHB components fell in January. Current sales fell only 1 point to 41, but 6-montb expectations fell by 3 points to 49 and buyer traffic fell by 3 points to 23.
