June’s NAHB homebuilders’ index with a decline to 32 from 34 is the weakest since December 2022, extending a sharp 6 point fall seen in May. The data suggests strength in April new home sales is unlikely to be sustained.
Upward pressure on bond yields. due to fiscal policy concerns, and uncertainty are both likely to have played a part in the weakness.
Detail shows all three components falling by 2 points, present sales, which led May’s decline, to 35, future sales to 40 and buyer traffic to 21.
