Canada November retail sales - A stronger month but trend still subdued
-
Canadian retail sales with a 1.3% November increase are similar to the provisional 1.2% estimate made with October’s report. The gain more than fully erases declines of 0.3% in October and 0.7% in September but trend is still subdued. The preliminary estimate for December is for a decline of 0.5%.
The details are generally positive, with sales up by 1.1% in real terms and nominal sales up by 1.7% ex autos and 1.6% ex autos and gasoline. Beer wine and liquor sales surged by 14.3% after falling by 11.8% in October on labor disruptions in British Columbia though most components saw healthy gains.
