The COVID-19 pandemic’s impact on the global economy will probably continue to grow as countries extend lockdowns.
Most LatAm countries will experience unprecedented economic downturns, while a lack of coherent domestic containment policies, along with domestic political disputes as a consequence of failures with containment, will exacerbate the impact. Moreover, the lack of regional coordination only makes matters worse.
More worrisome, however, is that because of domestic issues, some economies will have a harder time recovering. This increases the risk of a W- or L-shaped recovery, rather than the typical V-shaped one.
