Midterm Election Results are Positive for Mexico's Outlook

By Priscila Robledo
Mexico’s midterm elections took place on June 6. Based on the national electoral institute’s (INE) flash estimates, Morena, President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador’s party, will lose simple majority (1/2). More importantly, the ruling coalition “Juntos Haremos Historia” (JHH) loses the qualified majority (2/3) required to make constitutional changes, as we and most of the market expected. This result is constructive as it means more balanced powers.
